Full-Day Play Group

Hudson Hounds designs its play group to provide a distinctive experience for all dogs in our care. We aim to exceed typical industry standards by ensuring an environment that is both safer and more enriching than what standard daycares offer.

Enrichment Program

Activities That Goes Beyond Exercise

At Hudson Hounds, we recognize that dogs need more than just physical activity—they require mental stimulation for a truly fulfilling and “tired” day.

Scent Garden

Scent Garden

Our Scent Garden encourages sniffing, which helps regulate heart rates and stimulates the mind. The garden is planted with a variety of non-toxic plants, flowers, and bushes, including mint for fresh breath. It can be used for both individual and group activities.

Treat Maze

Treat Maze

The Treat-Maze is another feature designed for brain engagement. This physical maze is filled with hidden treats and diverse scents, challenging dogs to use their intelligence to locate treats and find their way out. This blends mental and physical exercise for a more rewarding experience than simply running around.

Agility Course

Agility Course

Our Agility Course promotes both physical and mental stimulation. All dogs, regardless of agility experience, can engage with the obstacles, encouraging problem-solving and confidence-building. We also offer multiple games and activities tailored for both individual dogs and groups, each curated to develop particular skills and interests.

Basic Command Work

We incorporate command-based exercises to keep dogs mentally engaged and to ensure a safe environment in our yards. Examples include:

  • Sit & Wait at Entry Gates: Teaching proper traffic etiquette and encouraging dogs to work for rewards.
  • Recall Exercises: Helping structure play and redirect excitement, supporting continued engagement and safety.
  • Hula Hoop Exercises: Promoting patience and respect for personal space by rewarding dogs for maintaining boundaries within the hoop.

Real Outdoor Experiences

Our property spans just under an acre, providing ample fenced-in outdoor space for the dogs. Unlike facilities with large indoor areas, our dogs get to enjoy all the seasonal changes and the outdoors. We tailor our activities for every season: lounging by pools in summer, chasing leaves in fall, knocking over snowmen in winter, and enjoying fresh spring air. Each season brings new opportunities for enrichment and play.

Staff with dogs

Staff-to-Dog Ratio

Our Commitment to Safety and Support

We believe that a high-quality daycare experience requires a dedicated, well-trained, and fairly compensated staff, as well as maintaining appropriate staffing levels. Hudson Hounds ensures at least one staff member is present for every group of 10–15 dogs, with groupings based on size and temperament. In addition to primary caregivers, we have multiple staff members available to address various activities and needs—whether it’s joining a yard for enrichment, taking a dog for a walk, or working with dogs in the scent garden or maze. This allows us to concentrate on every aspect of the dogs’ experience.

A manager is always on duty in the yards, actively overseeing and participating in daily activities rather than remaining behind a desk. Our total daily dog count is capped at a number much smaller than most facilities, ensuring small group sizes and allowing us to provide close, individualized attention without compromising safety.

Reading Dogs. Preventing Problems.

Safe Play Begins Long Before a Problem Occurs

Our staff is trained to constantly observe each dog’s body language, energy level and interactions with others. Dogs communicate continuously through subtle cues, and our team is taught to recognize those signals early.

Dogs are thoughtfully grouped based on size, temperament and play style, and those groupings are continually evaluated throughout the day. As dogs move between yards or activities, every transition is intentional and closely supervised. When introducing a dog to a new area or play group, we do so gradually, ensuring the dog is comfortable and the fit is right before play continues.
If a dog becomes overstimulated, anxious or dominant, we step in right away. That may mean redirecting the dog’s attention, changing the activity, providing a brief break or moving the dog to another area. Most situations are managed proactively through engagement and redirection before they ever have the opportunity to escalate.

On the rare occasion that a dog displays aggressive behavior, our team responds immediately using a consistent, practiced approach. Every staff member is trained to Act. Block. Separate. Remove. We work together calmly and efficiently to protect every dog in our care.
